Nutrition 101

Let’s forget bodybuilding for a minute.

Forget fat loss, forget protein shakes and forget your meat and nuts breakfast.

Let’s go back to absolute basics, and ask the crucial question.

“How well do you REALLY understand nutrition?”


If you’re not sure, try answering these questions.

  1. When would coconut oil be a better choice than sunflower oil?
  2. Is pork or chicken better for muscle growth?
  3. Are whole grains good for your heart?
  4. What is the most nutritious form of milk?


If you DO really know your stuff, then it would probably take you about 10 minutes to answer each of those questions fully.

At first glance, nutrition is very, very complicated.

But it really doesn’t have to be.

What makes nutrition seem complicated is all the conflicting messages we hear.

“Don’t eat carbs after 5pm” versus “Back load your carbs”.

“Grains and cereals are good for your heart” versus “Gluten intolerance is damaging your gut”.


What we all need is a back-to-basics approach to nutrition.

It’s time to learn it all over again, based on modern Science and based on what works in reality……

……even if it conflicts with what some studies might show.

I’ve read a LOT of books on nutrition.

And I can recommend very few of them.

There is, however, a new kid on the block.

Your Personal Paleo Code“, by Chris Kresser is by far the best I’ve come across.

It’s not too technical, it keeps things simple and is actually enjoyable to read.


Unfortunately the name puts people off, having the word “Paleo” often scares people away.

Don’t be scared by this.

This isn’t some special diet book or cultish way of eating.

It’s just explaining the very basics of how we eat, what makes us healthy and how best to use food to thrive.


One oddity of this book is that it has a slightly different name in the UK, titled “Your Personal Paleo Diet“.

It’s exactly the same book but has a few local UK references.


As with Carb Backloading, everyone in the team here owns this book,

.. including Ben Pakulski, who was reading it during his recent competition prep.

And it’s a book that you’ll end up reading…..

then giving to your partner……

then getting a copy for your parents….

and then your friends…..

and so on, and on…


Your Personal Paleo Code” is basically the book you wish you’d read at school instead of being taught all the BS that our Governments and food producers would have us believe.

So again, please ignore the title, have a read of the inside of Your Personal Paleo Code on Amazon and you won’t look back.

You’ll be amazed how much you learn.
